Modeling Method of Interface in PENTAGON-2D
กก
1. Element and material
The interface can be modeled as a material model of tension crack. The cracks are are assumed to be distributed uniformly within the elements. The shear modulus of the crack model is reduced when the tensile strength is reached by the external force. The reduction factor can be input. Usually, the interface is assumed to be very stiff in compressive response and very weak in shear response. This is the reason why we reduce only the shear modulus.
2. Input the crack angle regardless of the element orientation
Material Model = Existing Crack (Smeared Crack, CrackPlane_Tensile_Strength)
Smeared Crack : The tensile strength of crack is zero.
CrackPlane_Tensile_Strength : Input the tensile strength of the crack.
Angle : Crack angle counter-clockwise from the global X-coordinate axis (Degree)
3. Define the crack orientation w.r.t the element orientation
Model : Interface (Crack plane : surface 0)Þ Crack plane is parallel to the Surface Number 0.
Model : Interface (Crack plane : surface 1): Þ Crack plane is parallel to the Surface Number 1.
4. Discussion
The above methods are available at the same time in most cases. However, the former method is recommended because in the latter method we should make the element orientation parallel to the crack.
The thickness of the interface element had better be thin.
